John Fitzgerald Kennedy (EN)

John Fitzgerald Kennedy or abbreviated JFK was the 35th President of the United States.

He was born on 29th May 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts.

He studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science and graduated in 1937 from Harvard.

Kennedy participated in World War II as a volunteer in the Navy, after being injured in his back, he was discharged and received many decorations, returned to Boston where he began his career as a politician became a Massachusetts MP in 1946, 1952 and 1958 Senator, In 1960 ran for office against Republican MP Richard Nixon, Kennedy won the election and took office on January 20th, 1961, one of Kennedy’s goals was racial integration in the southern states, nuclear disarmament and the establishment of a dialogue with the Soviet Union.

But despite these good intentions there was a theater of confrontation between the two powers; it deals with the crisis of the missiles of Cuba when in 1959 Fidel Castro took power, Kennedy tried to stifle the Castro regime by financing and training Cuban refugees, but the operation failed and while trying to kill Castro in the midst of this tension the Soviet Union helped Castro with economic assistance-military and also began the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles on the island aimed to the United States. They were discovered by the United States in October 1962 by a spy-aircraft then Kennedy ordered a naval blockade to prevent the Soviet ships from reaching the island of Cuba.

The blockade lasted for 13 days on 26th October the Russians offered to withdraw the missiles only if the United States had not attacked Cuba and if they had removed their bases missiles from Turkey.

President Kennedy also announced in 1961 the start of the Apollo program that would bring man to the moon within a decade.

On November 22nd, 1963 while President Kennedy was in Dallas, Texas with his wife in his convertible car was killed by a sniper in circumstances not yet entirely clear, since then the presidents of the United States no longer use convertible cars.

Nacque il 29 maggio del 1917 a Brookline nel Massachussets.

Studio alla London School of Economics and Political Science e si laureo nel 1937 ad Harvard.

Kennedy partecipo alla seconda guerra mondiale come volontario in marina, dopo essere stato ferito alla schiena fu congedato e ricevette molte decorazioni, tornò a Boston dove inizio la carriera da politico divenne deputato del Massachussets nel 1946, nel 1952 e nel 1958 senatore, nel 1960 concorse alle elezioni contro il deputato repubblicano Richard Nixon, Kennedy vinse le elezioni ed entrò in carica il 20 Gennaio 1961, uno degli obbiettivi di Kennedy era quello dell’integrazione razziale negli stati del sud, del disarmo nucleare e di iniziare un dialogo con l’Unione Sovietica.

Ma nonostante queste buone intenzioni ci fu un teatro di scontro tra le due potenze si tratta della crisi dei missili di cuba quando nel 1959 prese il potere Fidel Castro, Kennedy provò a soffocare il regime di Castro finanziando e addestrando degli eduli Cubani ma l’operazione fallì e cercando di uccidere Castro intanto in mezzo a questa tensione l’Unione Sovietica aiutò Castro con assistenza economico-militare e inoltre iniziò l’istallazione di missili nucleari Sovietici sull’isola rivolti verso gli Stati Uniti, vennero scoperti dagli Stati Uniti nell’ottobre del 1962 da degli aerei-spia allora Kennedy ordinò un blocco navale per impedire alle navi sovietiche di raggiungere l’isola di Cuba il blocco durò per 13 giorni.

Il 26 ottobre i russi offrirono di ritirare i missili solo se gli Stati Uniti non avessero attaccato Cuba e se avessero tolto le loro basi missilistiche dalla Turchia.

Il presidente Kennedy ha inoltre annunciato nel1961 l’inizio del programma apollo che avrebbe portato entro un decennio l’uomo sulla luna.

Il 22 Novembre 1963 mentre il Presidente Kennedy si trovava a Dallas, Texas con sua moglie sulla sua auto decappottabile venne ucciso da un cecchino in circostanze ancora non del tutto chiare, da allora i presidenti degli stati Uniti non usano più auto decappottabili.
